BTW, at the time Jeremy was a relative unknown (and probably not that strong). But even then he had publicity tendencies. :) He's since made a name for himself by his strong play (and his publishing).

1) 13/8 is my stodgy play. Did Kit hit with 8/5*, 13/11?

2) I don't like double anchor games where one of the anchors is the 18-point. So I start with 18/13. Then I can see 18/14 or 11/7. I guess it's better to not give opp a good six from the bar (which unstacks a heavy point to boot). 18/14.

3) Even more so here than in #2 I don't want this double anchor. So 18/12(2) starts the play. Now I can make the 2-point but I don't like checkers on the 12-point so I finish 12/6(2). I see the option of leaving one checker on the 18-point [e.g. 18/6, 8/2(2)] but is that much of a hassle for White? I don't think enough, although downside is limited, too.
