Clocks, again

The first time I used a clock was only four months ago. In an Intermediate Division, I was the instigator. The only catch was that I insisted that the whole thing was just an exercise. There were no penalties for running out of time. The experience was a good one. I think it is the best way to introduce clocks to beginners and intermediates.
I was especially pleased to be using only one set of dice. The fact that they remain on the board after a player punches his clock is a big plus.
BTW: I oppose the trend towards shorter time intervals, but not in speed gammon, just in regular events. I prefer the nuanced play that longer clocks allow for. As Timothy pointed out in a recent post, experience in the chess world shows that speed tournaments do not produce good chess. I think a similar circumstance applies in backgammon.
Shorter clock intervals in regular backgammon would certainly take the nuance out of my game (what little there is), and with it, a lot of the fun.
