I won my first intermediate(a little long)

What was I supposed to do, lose? But starting from the actual beginning I played for the first time when I was 5. Backgammon for blood, what a great book.... Anyways, I played three times in the Flint BG club up to when I began playing weekly in December 2010 (then 20). My first tournament was a 21 player novice in Pittsburgh which I won. Then I played in Bill's Chicago and got 2nd in the novice. Should I have been allowed to play in the novice again? It was still only my second major tournament and did I really outplay them or just get lucky? Just a few weeks later I decided I did enough "sandbagging" and played in the intermediate at the Ohio State Championships. I was running hot, and after losing in the 3rd or 4th round I pulled a Fogerlund before it was cool and won a ton in a row including beating the undefeated player twice. So now I am supposed to play in the open in Chicago at the toughest field of 2011? No way jose. Sure I won enough money to buy in but why would I go 60/40 against the likes of some guy with a weird nickname when I can play in the intermediate and hopefully be no worse then 45%? And it turns out I still have yet to cash in a main event. I did get 2nd in the Am JP in Cleaveland, got a 2nd place finish in doubles, and 2nd in the freeroll in Michigan, but nothing major that could pay for a major event weekend. In my opinion my cash/nocash record says I should play in the intermediate, at least until there is some more sand in my bag, but I play around a 7 PR average and that doesn't seem like intermediate territory. I played in the Ohio, Chicago, and Michigan open tournaments and won 2 matches in the first and last but went 7-4 in Chicago. Anyways, there are a few reasons for playing in the intermediate and a few for playing in the open, out of curiosity, what do you guys think? Should I even be allowed to drop back down if I wanted to? FWIW I plan on staying in the open.
