I oppose the trend towards shorter time intervals...

I don't think said trend exists. There were previous threads about shorter time controls for Master Jackpots, but I don't recall any discussions about shorter time controls in general. (There are a lot of threads I don't read, so I could easily have missed something) Note that in Masters events, you are mostly talking about top players. You would probably see a drop in caliber of play, but I doubt it would be significant. Current controls are very generous.
