1-ply evaluations aren't very helpful, but since they tend to be similar to 3-ply, you can sometimes use 1-ply cube in a rollout instead of 3-ply since it's much faster. You might do that in cube action positions where the 2-ply/4-ply evaluation is clearly wrong (although you'll probably get a good result using 2-ply cube anyway).

In the position here, 2- 3- and 4-ply "see" far enough ahead for a good No Double evaluation, but 0- and 1-ply don't.
