Fast Roll ?

The rules, and the intent of the rules are, and should be clear. If you are playing with a clock and someone picks up the dice and rolls before you hit the clock, even if the move is forced, the roll either stands or goes over as the other player chooses.
If you are playing without a clock and your opponent rolls before you pick up you pick up your dice, you have the choice of making him roll over. Again, it doesn't matter if your move is forced or not.
Now, I've read and hear the argument that since you danced and couldn't come in and could not move, that now, when your opponent rolls, you are being a jerk to make him roll over if he rolls a good number. The problem is that if you allow him to get away with a fast roll, YOU HAVE ETHICALLY LOST YOUR RIGHTS to call him on a fast roll later when it might really matter. If you decide when you are going to call it on your opponent and when not to, you are taking an unfair shot at your opponent. So the answer is, and what I do is, the FIRST TIME he fast rolls me I warn him that it is against the rules and I don't like it and don't appreciate it, and I very nicely tell him that I will enforce the fast roll rule in the future. Once I put him on notice, I absolutely will make him roll over if I don't like his roll or let it stand if I do...that's what the rules say, and I don't want my opponent to rush me or fast roll me. I want to see him shake those dice and I want to be sure I have finished my move and thought about it before I am rushed into picking up my dice or put in an awkward position.
I have seen far too many problems by being lenient about fast rolling, and in my opinion, if you have an opponent that fast rolls you more than once, it is your fault as much as his and you should lose your right to call it on him. I've seen people take this shot at people, and it's unfair. I've watched matches where both players fast roll each other, particularly in bearoffs, and then, all of a sudden, a guy rolls a 6-6 and the other guy says it doesn't count because he was still thinking.
Now, to the exact example in point...we've been playing and there has been no fast rolling, and I roll a number that dances on the bar and he rolls before I pick up my dice. It's the first time he's fast-rolled me the entire match. No matter what he rolls, even if it is a very good roll and wins him the match, I won't penalize him for a fast roll, but I will warn him that I will penalize him next time. I DO have the right to penalize him this time under the rules, but I agree that accidents can happen one time and I think it is good sportsmanship to let it go, particularly if my move is forced.
