Perhaps this could work??

Slow matches have been a problem, even at Steve's tournaments. Better mechanics are great, but that's not the entire story.
I'll chime in on my preference: I want my matches clocked because I'm a slow player. Please reread. I'm not being a smart ass. I'm the last one who wants to see people in pain because something I did caused them a problem. It's happened before; I don't want it to happen again. At the same time, I want the reciprocal relationship. I don't want the slow play of others to damage my weekend. That's happened in the past, too.
IMO the real reason for clocks is to minimize the chances of long matches delaying multiple people and causing some to stay up late and then get up early.
It's somewhat ironic that old books on backgammon (meaning 70's) and players of that time talked about how important it was NOT to play slowly. This isn't a new problem but the solution is, relatively speaking.
