A while back, I said I would be very surprised if Stick cheated, and nothing that I've seen so far has changed that.

I've read all of Stick's Gammon Village articles, almost all of his Daily Quiz Recaps, and most of his posts here since I joined BGO. His theoretical knowledge is excellent, but I haven't seen anything to indicate that it's "off the charts," if by that is meant something far exceeding that of anyone else.

Now, Stick's theoretical knowledge may in fact be "off the charts"; I don't know. I'm just saying that based on the information I've seen, it's not at all clear. So I'll exclude myself from the list of "all" people who know this, and I suspect that many other people who think they know this are being unduly influenced by Stick's skilful self-promotion more than by the objective evidence of the extent of Stick's theoretical knowledge.

Theoretical knowledge, by the way, doesn't always correlate that well with actual performance. In particular, in most games I know, the very top performers aren't always the ones with the most theoretical knowledge.
