I'd actually contact Xavier ( contact@extremegammon.com ). Something seems very peculiar. Maybe something on your PC causing problems (as Stick suggested) or for whatever reason XG is not acting properly due to some "bug" (for lack of a better term) specific to your setup. Once you enter your personal key, future downloads and updates won't ask you for it again (The exception being - going from XG1 to XG2 or if you do something drastic like reinstall windows.
