The "problem" here - as I understand it - are that you have random dice, but the two dice are not rolled independently of eachother.
The "live" equivalent would be something like: Roll as usual, if your roll is a double-x, flip a coin to check if you should re-roll.
If that's correct, then the problem is, that it clearly affects the game strategies. I would think even opening moves could be changed, certainly cube strategy in non-contact posistions would. A lot of stuff will change, and if you are a "recreational" player, playing with these dice for a long time, your game will probably "suffer" from being optimized towards the dice-roll distributions. Thus when you move to a regular game of backgammon, you will not win as much, and you will feel jokered all the time. More or less, you will feel the very same way that originally made you prefer the "red dice". The problem is self-inducing (or what ever it is called).
I cannot see how that's good for the game or good for the way people think about bots and online gammon dice?
At minimum, it should be branded something different than backgammon.
