I don't know how Mike generated the text for the diagrams but I am assuming it was done through XG ? The "problem" is likely whitespace collapsing and rendering. When using the XG font and wanting to have the cube on the left side of the board you add the symbol for the cube with its value (! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + are the cube with values 1 through 1028) on the desired line and then every other line should start with a space to align things properly. These spaces are in the code but seem not to be rendered and there is only a single space in the two places in the middle line where six are needed. For using the font in html using instead of the space character works.

I also see Mike's diagrams with the same setup dependent problem that appeared earlier when Xavier tested the font (Embedded font test). I use the font for reference positions in html too locally where everything looks good using the font through @font-face in the css, but I havent delved into the XG generated html to see if the difference in styling and html can explain the different end results.
