My take on this is that after the greedy play Blue will have at least 9 checkers off and most likely 10 off before white has a chance to hit. The "safe" play means Blue will only have 6 or 7 off when the (first potential) shot comes.

10 off & closed out on the bar is about 70% to win, while 7 off & closed out is only ~40%. The greedy play may leave more shots, but Blue is in much better shape after being hit. I'll be greedy. Look forward to more detailed analysis.
