The 8 point is not especially useful and 8/7 is safer than other aces.

Could it be right to stay on the 24 point and hit with 11/9* instead ? I wouldn't do that on my own ; too big without real conviction. But the front position is certainly better after it, so, if Woolsey (or you :-) argued for it, why not ?
