Is backgammon like golf?

A few ways golf and backgammon are similar:
(1)In the short term (a hole in golf or a game in backgammon), you often don't get rewarded for playing much better than your opponent. But, in the long term (a backgammon match or a round in golf), you usually will, albeit much more so in golf.
(2)Both games are very well designed for using the doubling cube. If you have never tried this in golf, you should;
(3)When you have a large lead in a match, it calls for more conservative play and when you trail it calls for more aggressive play;
(4)Matches have a variable, but defined length. Pressure mounts for the trailer to catch up before he runs out of holes or available points(games).
(5)They can be very addictive;
(6)They take a long time to master;
(6)They are rewarding social outlets;
(7)They can cause great frustration when improvement is not seen for long periods.
