Is backgammon like golf?

@3: I am not sure changing your gameplan and playing conservatively is the best way to protect a lead on the golf course. It is the way most humans respond to the pressure which can be felt whenever close to winning. But I doubt it is more effective than the style of play which created the lead in the first place.

I play pool billiards from time to time. This game lends itself to cubing even better than golf, imo. Whenever it's your turn you can cube before you take your first shot.

How would you use the cube, playing golf? (before the next hole or during the play on a given hole)
