There seems to be a wide variety of opinions on clock controls. The current state of the technology is very relevant to the choice of controls. This limits the changes which could be considered now. I don't feel passionate about any particular solution since I don't intend on time defaulting any matches.

However, I do not feel that wild time scrambles are in the best interest of the game. Both of the contestants in Peoria were perfect gentlemen as I would expect from the two individuals involved. But, it is just a matter of time until a director has to resolve a dispute from a time scramble with contestants who are not being gentlemen and events which happened so quickly that the facts are not clear. It would be better if this didn't happen.
