No, I'm sorry, I'm not diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. I used the term "issues of autism" to avoid comparisons with Asperger's. Usually, when I tell people that I'm autistic, they immediately think that I have Asperger's, but my diagnosis is very different. I have PDD-NOS, but it's basically a cop out because I have relatively severe autism but it wasn't diagnosed until I was much older. I actually have a laundry list of other mental disabilities that are considered to be co-morbid with autism. I don't want to say that my condition is considered more severe than most Asperger's manifestations. That's not fair, and the whole "I'm more troubled" than you game is completely not fun to play. I don't like it at all.
Please understand that I have not wished to speak out against anyone at all. I never want to do that at all! As a bit of a note of discretion here, so to speak, if I miss any social cues in the future I'm sorry. Also understand that I might seem a little gentler than most people. To a neurotypical person - those without any diagnosis or anything like that - I might come off as though I have no backbone.
That being said, on a much more positive note, I do think that's a great idea for your family member! If you wanted to ask anything else, or ask for any other advice, I'm available. You can always email me too if you wanted to.
