Some aren't good enough at multitasking to play their best while talking socially.

Some in that group do want to play their best so don't socialize while playing. The player who "seemed too much into his thoughts" quite possibly is in this group.

Some of those will socialize between games.

For what you are looking for you may have more success in a low stakes chouette than in a tournament setting.
