Why did gammonempire / play65 get a lot of players? One thing that is evident is that they adveritized the site like no other backgammon site before them. They were also isreaeli based and found a new marked which hadn't been previously exploited. Rather quickly they had a decent player base of relatively weak players who played for medium and high stakes, and this in turn attracted a lot of the normal backgammon community who basically crushed these new players. Partygammon, same story, they had a big base of poker players and some of them tried their hand on backgammon with of course limited succes.
