I recall that people who have written about DMP stress the difference in the value of an anchor at this score compared to unlimited/$, for example. Here you can cause your opponent some escaping problems by making the 7-point. If you anchor, the remaining deuce is either not helpful (8/6) or risky (6/4 or 9/7) and in those cases you're only threatening to improve on your side. Offense is good at DMP.
If you make the barpoint and opponent then attacks on his side, often he uses up his timing accomplishing this, running the risk of crashing when trying to bring his last two checkers out. And that's when the closeout is successful.
