If you want to have a contest involving race estimation I suggest we just play each other starting with the same race positions repeatedly.
For example position A: all 15 checkers start in the outer board (in some specified way). Play 30 games with that start so that each player gets the same span of opening rolls.
and then position B: Same as A but 3 of the checkers start on the ace point so a few more oddball race positions occur.
and then position C: One side has stacks and other doesn't but the EPCs are very close to start out.
and then position D: reverse of position C.
Each set of 30 games uses speedgammon setting of 10 second delay and some suitably low reserve time. Something like 5 to 10 minutes. A clock expiration means you lose the current stake and 1 point in the remaining games. I could consider instead a penalty and then some time added or a penalty based on how much the reserve time was exceeded by. Race estimation techniques are not that useful if they take a long time.
If you want to add that a final roll position gets settled at the fair equity I am fine with that. To press the skill advantage if you want to add that either player can force a bet (say at the base stake unit for a single game) on the other's take/pass decisions I am fine with that also.
There is a decent chance I will be making the next big London open (the one Sean williams and Mike Main ran). That is near enough to you?
