Third time we've had the hit/no-hit decision in the last few votes?
Hitting leaves a minimum of two blots and minimum of 17 shots. Opp does have a homeboard blot so the hits aren't as costly, but also a better board. Unlike last vote, we are in the race so there is less incentive to hit. The multiple blots are the worse part (IMO) as one slip from the bar and the risk of two getting treed goes up considerably.
There is a no blot play: clearing the 8-point. That isn't particularly palatable since opp can hang back or even possibly spread out and wait for us to have trouble clearing the two outfield points with no oases.
16/8 makes a run towards home without giving up a landing spot. It does leave 8 shots but none of those rolls covers the acepoint, so it's more like 5.5 shots. It is a (dreaded) tweener, but occasionally those are best. When missed, the farside checker can play free safety for one roll, anyway. Something's gotta give soon, so we're not likely to stay camped out there for long (unless we're on the bar).
Owning the cube, we don't have to win the game this turn.
