While I don't have hard numbers to back it up, I would be quite confident that the average equity you lose on the third roll is less than the rest of the game. If you're going to learn 2000+ positions, there are much more useful sets of 2000 positions to master than the third-roll positions.

Learning to prioritize is certainly a crucial aspect of improving. But you would almost certainly do better to focus on positions that you find yourself repeatedly making large errors in, and creating variations of them to explore the impact of various factors, than to devote that amount of time to just the third roll.
