Thx..I had to send the machine back to Digital Storm anyhow for some repairs so since I was considering a new computer with this chip, I just decided to upgrade instead and also added a waterblock for the north and south bridges in addition to thw water cooling I allready had.

I let them overclock it and don't see a need to touch it. Vcore is 1.395V from what they said (haven't checked BIOS yet). Temps running Real Temp GT (Need GT version for 6 cores) run in low to mid 70's when room temp is about 21-21.5 C for the highest cores, so this is fine for 24/7 use and similar temps to my older hexacore i7-980x which has been serving me well for at least 2 years.

I presume you're getting BSOD when running XG above 4.0 Ghz? As I'm sure you know, when overclocking your chip you have to raise BCLK (CPU freq) lots and this can mess up your RAM freq. Whereas for my chip and I think all the new one's with K designation, you just raise the multiplier to O/C (of course voltages have to go up) and no worries about messing up RAM frequency.

There are plenty of guides and discussions about overclocking i7-970's on the overclocking forums. You may note that some of the speeds and temps these guys can achieve may seem unbelievable, but chips very and some of these guys can cherry pick from many chips and just use the best ones, and what they consider stable, might often BSOD when running XG for a week.

Yeah..I think I lucked out with a good chip this time. .. neilkaz ..
