Making the 4pt would be fine if it did not leave you with such an awkward structure. If your only choices were to make the 4pt or to make the 20pt (while slotting the 4pt), I could see choosing the former. But why not make the 10pt? In near perfect safety you can create a balanced front structure, and match your opponent by simulataneously escaping one checker.
