I don't believe that this is true. If bots played perfectly then there would theoretically be no difference between the methods, as explained for example in this thread.

Deviations from perfection do cause some difference between the methods but not so much that it will be noticeable in the vast majority of cases. In particular, with the MWC method you'll still make "incorrect" doubles and checker plays if you think they'll induce compensatory errors by your opponent.
