I 'next' a lot of stuff, either because I think there's no other play to consider or that the equity difference is so small and uncircumstantial it's not worth wasting a day. (example: You've closed me out and are bringing your men into your home board)
If anyone doesn't agree with me or they don't understand why it's a 'next' please speak up. I'd rather explain it than someone not understand but feel too 'shy' to speak up. Everyone here has went through hours upon days upon weeks upon months of studying backgammon to get to whatever point they're at, some people even more than that! We've all made uncomprehinsible blunders and failed to grasp certain situations. Even things that I see as obvious in listing the moves that led up to today's OLM decision I know some people are not to this point.
I played in a chouette over the summer where I can almost guarantee you people who had been playing for years on end would have butchered the Readers (Blue's) bearin. They'd have worried about the gammon too much and taken every crossover they could, making a mess out of their board and that would result in throwing away basically any wins Blue may have lucked into with a hit and still not assured him of saving the gammon as I may have the chance to attack a lone blot when you run one because your board would be a wreck.
I'm rambling, short version, when it doubt, speak up, ask.
