Bad Resignations show up in PR?

Does it make a difference if the player rolls 66 first and then resigns? My instinct is that it's still O.K. to accept the resignation.
A bit dicier, but in that case, I really have to ask my opponent if he is resigning a gammon or a single game. Surely this position is easier to see, but certainly you could imagine some position where you think you've gotten off the gammon, but you haven't really. If somebody resets the checkers, it could be trouble.
This illustrates why both parties MUST confirm the score before the position is destroyed.
In practice, this is why when I roll the gammon saving number, but which effectively ends the game (since the single win is obvious), I actually bear off a checker. Similar to where I'll physically bear off my 15th checker when I win a game.
