The dropping of the beaver was a mistake! I am sure you know a four roll position is a take. You had better than a four roll position. IF your opponent had doubled you with 8 of his men on the ace vs. 7 of your men on the ace, I am sure you would have taken. And you would be very happy if you were guaranteed he would not roll a double on his first roll. This is, essentially, the position you were in after you doubled and he beavered. You made a big mistake by doubling and another one by dropping the beaver. Your gave up over 1/2 a point on a 4 cube by passing the beaver. You were, likely, so flustered by your initial double, you were not thinking about the beaver clearly and passed quickly.
