A 4-roll vs. 4-roll position is a take. It's even better if the opponent is guaranteed to roll non-doubles on his first roll. However, this is a different situation since Adam's opponent owns the cube after the beaver. So, Adam was correct to pass the beaver. 5/6 of the time his opponent wins immediately. (When Adam fails to roll doubles, it's a 3-roll vs. 3-roll position, which is an immediate double/pass.) Even when Adam rolls a double on his first roll (1/6 of the time), his opponent still has winning chances.

From the 7-checker vs. 6-checker position, if the cube starts in the center (on 1):

No Double = -0.713 Double/Beaver/Pass = -2.000 Double/Beaver/Take = -3.006
