Seeking ideas/rules for a new variation of BG

I think the game will have a hard time getting going.

As all the normal rules are in place, noone can move until all their checkers are entered from the bar. However under the additional rules, no checkers can enter until a player has made three points. And until any checker moves, no player can make points ...

Now, I have the feeling that you would want to allow a player to move even if he has checkers on the bar - which in itself is a major rule change. Even then, I'd say that the first to make 3 points (and the winner of the opening roll must be strongly favored to do so) has a winning advantage, as he may then enter more checkers and soon make a 4th point, after which the other player will be left with his checkers on the bar basically for the remainder of the game. It is hard to see this version being playable.
