Lessons I haven't learned

I appreciate your thoughtful response. Your last point, about not being afraid to overcorrect particularly resonated with me.
I recently started playing and studying again after more than a year layoff. I don't seem to retain things as well as most people, and to say I'm rusty would be an understatement. One of the patterns I've noticed since coming back is that I'm way late on cubing, and often end up not sending it over until I'm way past too good. While I try to refine my judgment, I've made a conscious effort to start cubing as soon as I suspect it might be close. As a result I'm making far fewer, and smaller, errors. This makes sense, as the boundary between doubling and not doubling is far more important to identify than the one between doubling and playing on.
