In Response To: Further thoughts on backgammon psychology (Timothy Chow)

A few years back when I (and a lot of others here) were following the poker world more closely I recall an informal survey done by one of the bloggers. He asked (supposed) name players if they would rather play against good players or bad players (if it matters I think he was asking about tournament play, not cash games) and more than half chose to play against good players. Part of the justification by those who chose to play against the good players was that weak players were unpredictable. Probably related was the point made by a couple that it is so infuriating to lose to a weak player.

So (as you honestly point out your own potential weakness) it's not just he 'fish' who can act irrationally in the face of some adverse OtB conditions.
