My priority is to not play bar/20 6/5 which exposes my back checker to all sorts of attacking possibilites. So I enter on the 24 pt and look for a 5. I clearly then prefer 13/8 since I won't panic about my opp covering the 3 pt when his 5 pt is still open and I may later escape thru that opening. 8/3x may work, but leaves two blots whereas 13/8 brings down a builder and balances my position.

After my choice of 24 8 perhaps our opp cannot cover conveniently if at all.
