The director's ruling was that the first player to the posted seven point match length was the winner -- thus, the result of the nine point match was reversed.

The rules committee of three upheld the director's ruling. I did not have the opportunity, nor did I think it necessarily appropriate, to discuss the deliberations and the vote with any of the members of the assembled rules committee after the fact. I know they discussed it at length because it took a good deal of time for them to reach a decision. Others may know. Perhaps one of the committee member would like to comment.
