How byes should be allocated in a tournament with consolation?

I have a spreadsheet set up and it ensures that the players who do not get a Main 1st Round bye get the first of the Consolation 1st Round byes if any are available. It is a little complicated and not for 'general' use, just for me.

I do my draws using a random number generator and then assign each random number to each player and then sort.

All my entrants, draws and results are in Excel spreadsheet.
