Well, I think rule 1.1 is equally clear and strongly worded.

And so is rule 5.5! Yet those rules were ignored.

If you really were to rule that the played match and reported match score was not to stand, wouldn't it have been fair to go back and then score what would have been the Crawford game as such (ie. no cube), and resume play from that score?
