OtB and RO?

In answer to your specific question, the current US rules require a unanimous ruling by a rules committee to overturn a director's ruling.
I did not write the current rules, I may not agree with every aspect of the current rules; however, we were operating the tournament in accord with the current rules. Consequently, I think everything was done in strict adherence with those rules.
As in other aspects of life, disagreement with a law does not mean we are free to disregard the law. We, generally, are free to work toward amending a law we feel in unfair or unjust; but until, and unless, we amend the law, we are bound to the existing law.
Even the most passionate in attendance against the law were unanimous in agreeing that we followed the rules. I felt that was all we could do at the time.
In the subject circumstance, I feel the ruling strictly adhered to the published law. Most felt Section 1.1 applied to vagaries in the rules; however, the subject circumstance, seemingly, was very specifically addressed within the rules.
The subject circumstance manifested a perfect storm of the test of the current rules. The facts are obvious. Additionally, in complication, a player reached the posted 7-point score on a gammoned 2-cube during what should have been, had they been playing to the correct match length, the Crawford game. That player, subsequently, lost a 9-point match. The written rules were cited in overturning the result.
Would your evaluation of the situation vary if the player who lost the 9-point match had led 8-0 Crawford before losing? Would it differ if he/she lost points after the match should have been over? Is this any different than saying the match where he/she assumed the lead should have been the Crawford game? I think the permutations of occurrences and consequent thoughts are almost endless.
I will initiate a discussion for a clarification of these rules; however, though I may not be entirely comfortable with the rules, I am absolutely confident the ruling was consistent with the existing rules and procedures for appeal.
