Leaving a shot on large doublets isn't as bad as leaving other shots. When you leave a shot with large doublets, you are leaving a shot after taking four checkers off. Your chances of winning after a hit have just increased. Also, you have cleared two points (or at least one point) which needed to be cleared. The odds of leaving another shot soon have just gone down. In general, don't worry about leaving a shot with large doublets unless there is nothing else to worry about.
