The issue of clocks and late tournaments has been discussed fully, and I believe everyone knows the pros and cons. People who like to take their time and play as slowly as they like, who are not used to clocks or just don't like them, will never be convinced.
Logic, courtesy, ability to schedule reasonably, ability to have a good night's sleep, and the ability to know that you will have some leisure time to spend sightseeing, or with friends and family, and finally, fair play--all of which are possible when clocks are used--don't seem to make a dent in the feelings of those people who simply don't like to play with clocks.
Fortunately, most tournaments require clocks in the Open division and doubles (doubles without clocks is like having an operation without painkillers), and hopefully, in the near future, we will start seeing them required in the intermediate division as well. (It doesn't take time to get used to them and to see how it makes the entire event more enjoyable for all.)
In the meantime, if some people continue to feel otherwise, and we can't convince them, so be it. Eventually, I am sure, there will not be tournaments or matches without clocks. It's just not a good game that way. Until that happens, people will vote with their feet.
