When I formed the USBGF getting new people involved and playing was a major concern and goal. Brainstorming with a group of those who were involved early, we decided that we should move ahead with the idea, proposed largely by Rob Maier, to set up a master point system like bridge has - different color points for different events.

Not only would this push people toward tournaments but would also have the effect of creating demand for partnering with top players for doubles events and possibly creating a paid market for their skills.

Why this and the other better idea I had to increase popularity of the game in the US haven't been followed through on are beyond me. Actually... it's not beyond me - it's crystal clear. I think it is to a lot of people.
