Someone Please Explain

I'm not sure what you might have played but I am pretty certain of the correct play, 7/1* 5/4. The only other candidate plays I see are 7/1* 4/3 which is waaaaay overplaying the position with pipe dreams of being missed, most of the other plays leave two blots which is why they're tossed out the window (two blots and more shots!) and lastly, what I'm assuming you played, 8/2 8/7?
The first thing 8/7 8/2 does is concede your main asset, the five prime. If you want any possible counterplay when you are hit, it'd be nice to have that five prime don't you think? What it also does is force you to clean up the position next turn which isn't as easy as it might seem. (you can go through the rolls yourself, it can get awkward) A blot to cover whereas if you hit on the acepoint ...
By playing 7/1* 5/4 when you're missed a lot of the time you'll have an easier cleanup, being able to play behind your opponent's checker, if he enters on the two or three point, or maybe some pick & passage. [he may even fan, 1/4th of the time from what I hear, then it's freak gammon possibility]
I think that's all I have .. hope it helps, hope I'm right too of course lol.
