Someone Please Explain; OTB

I played 8/2, 8/7. Snowie likes 7/1*, 5/4, as did my betting opponent.
Anyway:
8/2,8/7: Facts: 11 hitting rolls, 3 builders, no stripped trailing points, 4 point prime, a hit by opponent on my 2 pt blot puts opponent in immediate position to jump my prime
7/1*,5/4: Facts: 11 hitting rolls, 9 dancing rolls, 2 builders, three stripped trailing points, 5 point prime, a hit by opponent on my 1 pt leaves opponent two away from leading edge of prime
My thoughts were if I get hit I'm dead either way -- and same number of hitting rolls. If he hits, he can play on for a bit if he wishes and/or can cash out at any time. If I don't get hit it seemed my structure of 4 points with builders on three is much less awkward and much less likely to leave another shot (direct or indirect) on the second roll than the ultimately stripped five prime position.
Anyway, as luck would have it, he rolled 1-1 -- a brutal killer regardless of what I had played. As a humorous note though: we had talked so much about the play during the game, before and after his roll, that he made the illegal play of 24/23, 8/6 (forgetting the fourth ace -- and I didn't notice it till entering the match into Snowie from the recording). But, after a brief scare for him, he extricated the checker anyway and won the game.
