Stick was right

Jason, we had some fun times with that stegosaurus. I'll never forget the night we were chouetting at the White Castle on North Avenue, and he farted in a lady's face!

Let me try to capture the essence of the difference.

Once upon a time there were chess tournaments, and there were backgammon tournaments. Chess tournaments were populated by nerds with poor social skills. If an average person who happened to play chess decided to visit one, it wasn't that they were intimidated, but they were uncomfortable. There was the sense: "I don't eat boogers; I don't fit in."

Meanwhile, backgammon tournaments were like the family holiday gathering. The nerdy cousins who ate boogers were accepted and welcome, because they were part of the family. But there was turkey and stuffing for everyone who wanted it. You had your aunts: Aunt Joanne Feinstein and Aunt Gayle Wolf and Aunt Bobbi Schiffren, who would tell you how much you had grown since they last saw you. There'd be Uncle Kenny Bond slipping you a five-dollar bill to spend at the movies, and Uncle Peter Kalba who would tell you the jokes your mom didn't think you were old enough to hear. And besides the nerdy cousins there were the wilder cousins like Cousin Bob Ebeler and Cousin Bob Zavoral who were busy spiking the punch with vodka. Or Cousin Carter, who was trying to get all the nerdy cousins to smoke their first joint, while listening to Slipknot. And telling the nerdy cousin's hot older sister "But in Arkansas it's a cultural norm!"

These days there are more boogers, and less vodka in the punch bowl.
