Precision Dice and Gentle Rolls

I believe we are all in agreeing that if there are defective or loaded dice, and one of the players knows this, it doesn't matter what rolling method is used. How to detect defective or loaded dice is a mystery to me, though I am sure there are some methods. I used to carry a magnet to see if there was a magnet or metal in dice if I was truly suspicious, but there are other ways to manufacture crooked dice that are not detectable this way.
This thread began, however, about discussing whether more or less shaking or the method of rolling could affect honest dice, and there, I would need to see proof before I could believe that more or less shaking could produce a predictable roll, however, I believe most logical, fair-minded people would agree that a baffle box could not help but improve the odds that the dice were random, provided again, that the dice are not loaded or defective. I also believe that more shaking and following the proper dice roll procedures is more likely to assure randomness, but it also prevents several known methods of palming the die and laying an unrolled die on the table, which is quite possible and difficult to detect if the player is allowed to put his cup or hand on the table during the process of rolling. (I have seen it demonstrated and I have tried it myself and I can do it. --The best way to catch a cheater is to learn how to cheat.)
