So I guess you're saying that if I had instead moved White's spare from the 6pt to the 5pt then 16/11 would still be on top. Even so, it still means that in the original position, there's a cost to paying now that must be assessed. I grant that moving the blot from the 2pt to the 3pt strengthens White's forward position, but it's not what I would under normal circumstances describe as "much" stronger (I'd reserve that for creating a new point or eliminating a blot; shifting a blot one pip wouldn't normally count as "much" stronger in my book). In particular, the fact that such a change affects the top play makes me feel that dismissing everything but the race as making "little difference" is misleading. Yes, our game plan is to race, and that is the #1 consideration, but White's threats are strong enough that we need to pause and assess them carefully to see whether they might inhibit us from making the natural play.
