Blue played b (both) = 20/15(2), 13/8(2)

Here is what Timothy already figured out:

Both of the moves above belong in the B (Both) family. That’s because they make 2 moves that land on the far side of the board and 2 moves that land within the outer board. They play “both” up and down.

To see which ranks higher, check the Hit/More/Six rule.

  • Hit Convention — First priority is given to plays that hit, but since neither of these do, we skip ahead to the ...
  • More Points Convention — Priority is given to the play that makes or retains the most points. In these positions, after Blue completes his move, he will hold 4 points. Hence, we have another tie, and must check the ...
  • 6pt Convention — The first part of this convention gives priority to holding points that are closer to the 6pt. Both positions above hold the 6pt, 8pt, and 13pt. The position on the left, however, holds the 10pt, which is closer to the 6pt than the 15pt held in the position on the right.
By the 6pt Convention, then, the position on the left is awarded the capital letter B. The position on the right gets lower case b.
