I also appreciate Dmitriy sharing his matches, even though I look at a very small number of other people's matches.

One match that I did watch live was Dmitriy's match against Merriman. The thing that struck me the most about that match was the lightning speed with which Merriman made almost all his plays. I feel sure that if I were to play that fast, my PR would double or even triple compared to when I play at my normal (slow) speed. My guess is that Merriman played quite well even though he was playing fast, but I was kind of curious as to whether that was really true. Unfortunately it seems that that's the one match Dmitriy doesn't have.

As for the checker play 53P-51S-43, I would play U (24/20 24/21). I believe that's the normal way to play 51S-43 and I don't see a compelling reason to deviate from that here. If anything, it seems we're less afraid of getting hit and more interested in racing now that we've slipped in 53P.
