What Backgammon Needs to Thrive

The Southeast Backgammon Championships (May 2-4, 2008, Atlanta, GA) supports the use of clocks, and three of the major events (Championship, Doubles, and Southeast Masters Jackpot) will use the 'Clocks Allowed' rule. This means if either player or team wants to use a clock the match will be clocked.
Jeb Horton will loan me some of his clocks so with my supply we should have 20-24 clocks avaiable for the event. Of course, for 100% assurance of clock availability, you can and should bring your own. (Excalibur Game Time II seems to be the clock 'of choice' and can be had for about $30 on EBay.)
I am very curious to see how many matches actually get clocked. This is the first event I'm aware of that will be have three significant events using the 'Clocks Allowed' rule.
(P.S. There is an error in the printed flyer: 'Clocks Allowed' was omitted for the Championship Division description. The downloadable flyer and the event list at http://sechamps.com show it correctly.)
In response to Stick's complaint about the size of the rakes at BG tournaments: By raking 8-15% on the various events I'm able to break even or show a small profit if things go well. Without significant sponsorship the rakes aren't going to go down; it's just not financially possible. Directors need to be able to make at least a little money running these events.
