The USBGF does maintain an elo ranking of its members, but that ranking is only viewable by USBGF members. The USBGF should consider making it publicly viewable ... copy what Scrabble has done ... but a player would have to be a USBGF member to be part of the database. That would solve the funding issue.

We definitely need to study everything that Scrabble has done, because it's amazing to me that their tournaments draw so many ... yet their prize money payout is way below what backgammon tournaments offer. To me, the Scrabble Cross-Tables web site explains why Scrabble tournaments are so much more popular.
